Starting in January 1938 there was a small 650-square-foot library branch on Norse Way in unincorporated Lakewood Village. This facility received a major building addition in 1945. In 1954, matching the year Lakewood officially incorporated, Lakewood’s public library moved to a larger building in the Faculty Shops at the Lakewood Center. In 1959 the library moved to a larger dedicated building on Clark Avenue. The name changed in 1965 when the library was rededicated as the Angelo M. Iacoboni Library, honoring Lakewood’s first mayor elected by the first city council in 1954. The library moved to its present location in 1973. On February 12, 2001, the Angelo M. Iacoboni Library reopened for service following several months of renovation. The project was a joint effort of Fourth District Supervisor Don Knabe, the City of Lakewood and the County of Los Angeles Public Library. The remodeled library sported a different layout, improved lighting, technology upgrades, and a Friends of the Lakewood Libraries (FoLL) Bookstore.
Our library contains an extensive collection of books and media, plus many periodicals and newspapers are available to peruse. Gardeners may enjoy the seed library where flower and vegetable seeds are found.

Inside the library, FoLL has a bookstore selling used books, magazines, puzzles and media such as CD's, DVD's and vinyl records. We accept only cash payment in the bookstore, and please bring your own tote bags to carry your book, puzzle or media purchases home.

George Nye, Jr. Library

George H. Nye, Jr. was one of Lakewood’s original five founding City Council members in 1954 and later served as the city’s mayor until his death in office in May 1971. His legacy continues to live on in the community today through the library that bears his name.
